The forecast promised anything but an ordinary day: 32 °C heat and westerly gusts up to 29 knots from 11 a.m. Nevertheless, 16 volunteers and 14 participants from various organisations, including Sunnyfield as well as a few private sailors, braved the wind and weather and enjoyed a beautiful morning on Sydney Harbour, one of the most stunning places in the world. Five boats, along with Ivan’s single-hander Claire, were rigged and ready when the first clients arrived.
Malcolm, Julie, and Dany did an amazing job on the pontoon, keeping the boats running smoothly with efficient participant changes. Jennie, Warwick and Ken kept an eye on our sailors from Charlie’s Chariot but had to focus more on a capsized kayaker, who had to be towed all the way back to Manly.
Corey, as always, managed the sailing times and crew rotations perfectly and kept a sharp eye on all the boats. Steven took care of all the little things that might otherwise have been overlooked, while Michael, Helene, Steve, Rob, and John battled bravely with the increasingly strong gusts throughout the morning.
Fortunately, the wind remained manageable until the end, allowing everyone to get out on the water – with enough time left for an extra sailing round for Julie and Petra.
Thanks everyone for the great teamwork!
