It was a beautiful summer day for sailing. Overnight rain left the air a bit humid, but the day was bright and sunny, with increasing southerly winds. Large flocks of bluebottles drifted by, but fortunately, no one had a close encounter with them.
We had 17 volunteers on hand. Petra served as SDC, while Malcolm, the “king of the pontoon,” kept everything running smoothly down below. Five boats, along with Ivan’s single-hander Claire, were rigged and ready when the first clients arrived.
The morning started off relaxed, as the clients arrived early and were well spaced out. This gave the sailors time to take some volunteers out for a sail as well. Warwick skippered Charlie’s Chariot, with Eli capturing the day in photos. Corey managed boat timings, while Caroline did a fantastic job on the top deck, outfitting everyone with life jackets and coordinating boat changes.
A total of 18 participants came down for a sail: three from Sunnyfield, four from Northside, three from Catholic Care, seven private guests, and one from My Independent School. It was a wonderful Wednesday morning on the water, with a perfect breeze and plenty of smiles all around.
