The morning started in a very promising way. The sun was shining for a change, we had a very light breeze, and the expectation of lots of lovely people to go sailing with. This happened for a very short time, then the wind that we had expected to start coming in around lunchtime, hit very suddenly around 10.00 a.m. with gusts up to 25 knots hitting the boats that were already out on the water by that time.
Luckily, we only had 4 boats on the water at the time, so it was not difficult to get them over to the shelter of the pontoon, with towels and dry clothes on hand for the sailors who had become wet.
Ralph, in Charlie’s Chariot with observers Caroline, Lyn and Juliette, Jay the Pontoon Manager, Sailing Coordinator, Helene, Registrar Helen decided that it was too dangerous to continue sailing, so we called a halt, even though some people did not get a turn sailing.
In spite of the fact that sailing was cancelled, there was a heap of socialising going on, so everyone had a really good day, and ate lots of sausage sandwiches. At the same time, Alan was cruising around with Colleen getting some input into the video that we are producing for the Sailability NSW 20th Anniversary Celebration.
Helpers today were (as well as the already mentioned) Denis, Ray, Jim G, Ivan, Peter, Tony, Michael, Jim Q, Jon. Thank you very much to all of these people, as well as our lovely sailors.
Guests and wishful sailors were Judy, Philip, Peter, Paul, John, Debbie, Adam, Ollie, Steve, Derek, Ashley, Vanessa, Luca, Carlo, Roger, Stuart, Brad, Dirk, May, Robert, Danielle.
