It started out a sunny morning with a light westerly wind. Launched 6 boats and just had 6 volunteer skippers available – Denis, Brian, David G, David W, Skye and Michael B.
Groups arrived from Avenue, Sunnyfield, St. Lucy’s school, Royal Rehab and individuals.
Wilma was on the registration desk, Corey on the radio / timekeeping, Malcolm, Joe and Lena on the pontoon, and Warwick and Ken manned the rescue boat.
We had two visitors (Malcolm and Angela) from England who volunteer for Sailability in Dorset on a lake.
Angela enjoyed a sail with Skye while Malcolm went on the rescue boat. Later, Angela swapped with Malcolm on Charlie’s Chariot and he went and talked with Manly Sailability volunteers .
Both were impressed and enjoyed their visit. We operate much the same way as they do in England but they did take home some of our ideas.
Everything was casual and pleasant until late in the morning when a 20 to 25 knot S.E. wind blew into Manly Cove.
Exciting times for those skippers / participants that were sailing over the far side of Manly Cove .
All made it back to the pontoon safely under the watchful eyes of those on Charlie’s Chariot.
Unfortunately sailing was then cancelled but Warwick and Ken took a few participants out for a rough ride on Charlie’s Chariot.
Thanks to all Manly Sailability volunteers for their time and effort on what turned out to be a difficult morning.
